People have been telling me they’ve started running because of the things I share about running on twitter and Instagram.

So here’s a thread about some running positives & tips
1)
you get outside, under the sun, to breath and sweat

Not a bad way to get exercise
2)
a complete full body workout + good for the heart + lungs + brain

Often allows for the mind to focus on running only as it takes most of your energy + focus
3)
running is uncomfortable. Uncomfort from exercise is healthy. Good for the mind.
Running is also an extremely natural action that’s been done for thousands of years

The marathon is named after Pheidippides who ran 150 miles in 2 days around 490 BC to Marathon, Greece!
4)
Every foot is different. Every shoe is different.

Don’t buy a shoe that hasn’t been fit for you or risk hurting you ankles, knees or shins.

Roadrunner sports has a great option to join their membership, test shoes and bring back if you don’t like them.

Took me 5 tests.
5)
morning runs are different than evening runs.
fasted runs are different than fueled runs.
cold runs are different than warm runs.

I enjoy mixing up my time of day + testing diets.

Always eat before longer runs, wait an hour or two after eating to run.
6)
I’ve ran 6 marathons now since June 2019.

How do you run that far is the most common question I get.

If you can run 20 miles once before a marathon, your mind will get you to the finish once you get yourself to a marathon.
7)
running slower will make you faster & stronger
(Heart rate zone training)
8)
once a week short distance sprinting has unbelievable brain chemical release.
Unsure what it does, but a few full out effort sprints or a very fast short run will give your day a different energy
9)
force yourself to start a run and you’ll thank yourself when you the finish

starting is the hardest as it’s not the most fun exercise
10)
Explore streets / neighborhoods / paths to change up your runs and make them more interesting
11)
A run with music/podcasts is a lot different than a run with nothing.

Lately have been running a few days a week no phone, just get out and go, very freeing and a great way to have a little technology disconnection
12)
Strava is the best app to track your runs and connect with your friends who are running/cycling

Can also share photos connected to the run
14)
Coronavirus has many of us cooped up

Running alone is social distancing at the highest form + very easy to keep enough distance passing people

No excuse not to get outside at some point to grab some sun & exercise during this time
15)
Your body, knees, legs, arms, back, feet, or ankles hurt becuase you never gave yourself enough runs for your body to know what you are doing to it!

Stay at it & as Nike says it best... “Just do It”
16)
419 miles so far 2020.
Marathon a month challenge.

3/3 in 2020, 9 to go!

If I think about the 9, it seems like a lot/is a lot. If I think about one month at a time, seems like a little!

Same goes for life when it seems rough, try and focus on the day in front of us!
