I don't like white people who refuse to try to view non-white media through a non-white lens. If you don't like it or understand it, that's fine: Just don't watch it and move on. Part of the fun of viewing media from all over the world is comparing, contrasting and learning.
When viewing media from a different culture there is always a level of learning and exploration to it. This doesn't just apply to white people experiencing other cultures but also any culture experiencing any other. This should be a fun and world expanding experience.
If it isn't a fun experience, for whatever reason, whether the other culture is too uncomfortable for you, clashes with your ideology or simply you're not bothered to learn about it: just move on. The world doesn't need to hear your single-minded take on another culture.
Having said that, sharing your view about a story from another culture can be an amazing experience. Ypu bond over themes and thoughts that come from completely different histories and cultures and learn that even in the things that makes very different we can find understanding.
Some of my favorite discussions recently have been about how The Legend of Hei speaks on indigenous people around the whole world as well as a fast modernizing China, that parasite manages to speak about classism in a way that is universal,
and the ever expanding discussion of LGBT couples (and their censored but just as romantic sworn brothers) helping LGBT issues be discussed more openly in China. That topic has been just as eye-opening for many westerners as it has for the Chinese audience they were written for.
With that said I'm also sick of hearing how terrible white people are every few weeks in this fandom. Do you have to resort to racism when you're upset about a couple of people in the fandom? All that shows to me is that you're just as jingoistic as those you attack as ignorant.
I get the whole idea that white people are these terrible colonizers who always have the loudest voices and most privilege. That shouldn't be an excuse for you to be just as offensive because your sick of them though. Teach them if they'll learn, block them if they won't.
Anyway, I'm not gonna change your mind and I don't plan to. I know a lot of you are sick of seeing white people generalize others. I am too, but I'm also sick of seeing white people being generalized so in the future ill be blocking you whatever direction your racism goes.
/done.
Sorry for the rant. I'm just sick of all the negativity in what was once such a joyful fandom, and I don't attribute it to any group of people. Its just a few terrible people across all areas. Funny that. Prejudice is something you can have regardless of your background.
