Geogrid has been laid! We are ready to put down some base here at East Aviation!
Our blade man demonstrates his talents and many years of experience by mixing the base on the asphalt and then evenly distributing the material across the narrowly excavated section on this portion of this large street reconstruction process.
Base is made up of crushed limestone material and becomes extremely hard and compacted when installed correctly. However, this is not an easy task and this is where experience and skill comes heavily into play.
The proper mixture of water into the base is imperative to the compaction of the material. Too wet, and the material will be unable to harden and “pumping” occurs.
Pumping is when there is a noticeable amount of movement when driving or even walking across the material.
Although, too dry and the material is unable to compact properly. And both take a long time to fix if done incorrectly.
