Today is #Oromo Martyrs Day ( #GGO). It marks 40 years since a delegation of OLF leaders were captured and killed by a WSLF unit in the Shinniga desert (around Fiq in the Somali region).

The delegation comprised of 10 figures who have gone down as legendary figures.

3) Abboomaa Mittikku
4) Yigazuu Bantii
5) Irannaa Qacalee
6) Falmataa Caccabsa
7) Marii Galan
8) Dhaddacha Boru/Qerranso Ware
9) Dhaddacha Mul'ataa
10) Faafam Dooyyoo

After the group was captured, the Muslims among them were told to reveal themselves so that they would be spared. In an act of unity, they refused to segregate themselves and were ultimately executed alongside their comrades.

Bariisoo Waabee (1942-1980), aka Magarsaa Barrii, was elected chairman of the OLF in 1977. He was a graduate of the then Haile Selassie I University (now AAU) and one of the members of the Central Coordinating Body chaired by General Tadasse Birru.

Gadaa Gammada (Demissie Techane) was the vice chairman of the OLF. He was a civil servant working for a government ministry before joining the OLF.

Abbaa Xiiqii Hinsarmuu (Abboomaa Mittikkuu) was a OLF central committee member. He had studied economics at AAU where he beat Meles Zenawi in an election to become the Secretary General of the Student Union in 1977. He was a prominent student activist at the time. #GGO

Yigazuu Bantii, aka Doorii Barii, was a former Ethiopian Airforce pilot and a member of the OLF central committee.

Falmataa Caccabsaa (1954-1980), aka Umar Ibrahim Galmo) was poet/singer and a commander in the OLF's military wing. You can hear his performance at a culture show in Finfinee (1976):
