Perception of his game has changed because he isn't a good player anymore. https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1250450105527865344
I mean, come on. Isolated for teammates, for deployment, for competition, he comes out absolutely horrible.
This article basically sees that Doughty's microstats have stayed steadily good but his actual on-ice impact has crashed and burned. And instead of getting into why that might have happened through analysis, the answer is "uh teammates I guess?"
Ignoring the fact that the Kings are actually a decent possession team, and their blueline is not a tire fire aside from Doughty - Doughty IS the tire fire.
"A couple of those players are solid, but for the most part it’s very clear that Doughty has to drive the bus..."
I think microstats have a lot of value and I credit the people who track them. But the reflex to say "actually all other models are irrelevant because player x has good zone exits" is getting real annoying.
A guy can be a good transition player and still suck overall!
