So the tomb sweeping holiday passed a few weeks ago but I'm thinking about this painting that depicted a riverside down in the midst of the festivities. It's called 清明上河图 and fairly well known as an art piece
Because this is a very long painting, restaurants like to use it as a trim and you can see it in eateries in China and sometimes in overseas Chinese restaurants
If you're a fan of where's Waldo (wally for UK people) books where u look for small details there's a lot to find in this painting. I am partial to boat about to run into a bridge
Even with so much else going on you can see the people's gesturing and likely yelling animatedly as the boat gets closer. It's very lively and if you didn't tell me it was about tomb sweeping festival I'd never guess
You get the sense that even on a festival day this was very much a working holiday for people across the then capital of the Song dynasty. There's a sense of hurried coexistence among everyone in it. Which I guess suits the fact that restaurants display this painting, doesn't it
