I’m going to go into depth about Overhaul’s color scheme and how I think it’s similar to the Joker’s #MyHeroAcademia

[THREAD]
The Joker mostly has a secondary color scheme, at least in the Animated Series

Secondary colors (orange, purple, green) happen when you mix the primary colors (red, blue, yellow)
Ironically, it’s the exact opposite color scheme of All Might (a hero), whose color scheme consists of the primary colors
The Joker’s color scheme is also triadic

Triadic color schemes are 3 colors equally spaced apart on the color wheel, which happen to be the secondary colors for him
Although the Joker has a triadic color scheme, the main colors that stand out and make us think of him are purple (his suit) and green (his hair). Heath Ledger’s Joker emphasized this the most
Let’s talk about complementary colors for a second. These are colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel

(Red ↔️ Green)
(Yellow ↔️ Purple)
(Blue ↔️ Orange)

You get the idea. Each primary is complemented by a secondary
Now, I’d like to mention that the Joker’s color scheme can also be seen as Tetradic: four colors that are made up of 2 sets of complementary colors

In his case, the colors are red and green with yellow and purple

Red: lips
Green: hair

Yellow: eyes and teeth
Purple: suit
Now here’s where it starts to relate to Overhaul: he shares this color scheme with the Joker. Even the places where these colors show up are similar in terms of the primaries and secondaries, with slight differences
Joker’s main secondary color is purple, seen in the suit. The green’s in the hair

Overhaul’s main secondary color is green, seen in the jacket. The purple’s in the feather boa (kind of like hair)
Joker’s primary/complementary colors are in his yellow eyes and teeth. The red’s in his lips

Overhaul’s are in his (also) yellow eyes and gold embroidery on the mask, the red is the mask itself

They’re placed pretty similar to each other
Lemme point out that they both wear white gloves
I’d also like to mention that Overhaul didn’t adopt this color scheme until he started gathering members of the Hassaikai and put the yakuza boss into a coma. His color scheme was mainly a neutral gray color scheme, even with the mask.
It was after he went towards the path of evil that he adopted a colorful scheme. Maybe to symbolize his descent into evil? We often think of villains with dark color schemes but Overhaul’s is super similar to the Joker, whose known for being insane and evil.
The point of this thread was to point out how similar they are in terms of color. Horikoshi loves American comics so maybe it was on purpose, but it could also be a coincidence!

Am I overthinking it? Probably.

Hope you enjoyed it!
