/12 @jacksmyboy @bkives @LaraASchroeder @purdyCBC @cbcamber and I won an @RTDNA_Canada digital media award today for coverage of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike centenary last year. One of 8 Prairie awards for @CBCManitoba. https://twitter.com/RTDNA_Canada/status/1250511510566305794
/12 V lucky to get to work alongside these bright, hard-working folks every day (at a distance these days). Usually there's an @RTDNA_Canada in-person ceremony. Not so this year bc of COVID-19. *But* if it were to happen, I'd nominate @jacksmyboy to pick up the award. Here's why
/12 @jacksmyboy alone wrote ~20,000 words across 9 or so features. He spent weeks and weeks on research and many hours scouring the @MBGovArchives for historical photos that appear across our coverage. What a feat. He deserves đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź
/12 @purdyCBC helped shoot pics. Also, 360 videos that, with the help of our amazing @CBCNewsGraphics and interactive units, transport viewers back in time to some of the key 1919 strike locations around Winnipeg. Here's 1 centred on the Exchange District
/12 @LaraASchroeder, one of our resident copy editors, edited thousands and thousands of words for this project. She's a hero. Copy editors are heroes.
/12 Lastly, other reporters, producers, anchors churned out TV and radio content for the 1919 strike centenary that wasn't included in this digital media category. Including this podcast by @CBCMarcy + @kimkaschor. Deserves a listen: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/podcasts/muddied-water/
