i am of the opinion... that being responsible and thoughtful with tagging and trigger/content warnings is basic courtesy and empathy, and i mean this for fanfic and mainstream media. no amount of "not ruining the surprise" is worth causing harm to real life people, (1/4)
when that harm could easily be avoided by providing them with the info they need to decide whether or not to engage with certain content. i don& #39;t think that should be controversial. we, as creators, owe it to our readers to treat them with a base level of respect. (2/4)
stories might be fake but their impact can cause real, lasting reactions. isn& #39;t that a goal of writing, to have a tangible effect on the audience? it feels disingenuous to argue that fiction doesn& #39;t affect reality bc it does, there is so much research that shows the way (3/4)
media impacts how we see/engage with the world. the least we can do is try to curate spaces where ppl can safely choose what they engage with. that doesn& #39;t mean you can& #39;t tell certain stories or explore certain themes, but we have a responsibility to do so with care. that& #39;s all.
