It's both sad and hilarious how pathetic Nietzsche's life was in comparison to his grand and larger-than-life writings. When he released The Birth of Tragedy, academic philologists at the time thought it was so bad that the reputation of Nietzsche's philology department worsened
And the next semester Nietzsche only received 2 students. He then decided to send one of his musical compositions to composer Hans von Bülow, and Hans thought it was so bad he asked "is the whole thing a joke; perhaps you intended a parody of the so-called music of the future?"
