My concern here is that it assumes there are only two options - download or refuse Aus's covid19 app - without asking whether it could be designed for better privacy: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-16/coronavirus-tracing-app-should-i-download-it/12151324
I don't see how anyone can decide about it without knowing what it is. #covid19aus https://twitter.com/johncoyne14/status/1250531598644043777
You've said "What is being proposed is no different than our existing health surveillance system." OK, that's not obvious from public information - I assume you've had a careful look at the tech. So are you saying there's no upload of location data for non-infected people?
You've also said "But I also want the Government to assure us that once this crisis is over, it won't use our data for anything else." Would a commitment like that be a precondition for your downloading it, or are you just asking nicely? How would you test compliance? #auspol
Why not use this opportunity to examine the least invasive ways of doing contact tracing and insist on those? Like most other cryptographers and privacy advocates, I've advocated a decentralised alternative to TraceTogether https://github.com/vteague/contactTracing
