My biggest fear, re the discussion on "is art/stories with fictional minors depicted in sexual situations CSEM?" is not:

-What other contexts will be next in the & #39;fictional abuse is still abuse& #39; movement?
-How many creators will lose their ability to platform/fund their work?
-How many survivors who use creativity to explore their trauma will suddenly feel obligated not to explore it at all just to appeal to everyone else& #39;s delicate sensibilities?
-Will actual child abusers go ignored/unseen in favor of the easier target & #39;fictional content creators& #39;?
Although all of these issues are valid fears, my biggest fear is actually:

-What sort of precedent are we setting where we not only lie about what constitutes as CSEM, but also distribute it on the presumption that it& #39;s "just so gross you& #39;ll have to see it to believe it"?
I am terrified of the day a child or adult survivor& #39;s CSEM gets passed around because it& #39;s "just too gross to believe without proof" by a bunch of people claiming to be "allies" to CSA survivors, all because no one big or loud enough was willing to stand up and say -
- "THIS IS NOT HOW WE HANDLE THE DISCUSSION ON CSA PREVENTION" when they see a bunch of "ew take a good long look at this disgusting CP art" asshats in fandom spaces thinking they& #39;re protecting ANYONE by treating the issue of CSA as if it& #39;s an issue of discomfort.
It& #39;s not. CSA is a crime because it violates a LIVING PERSON& #39;S HUMAN RIGHTS. Children are WHOLE HUMAN BEINGS who have HUMAN RIGHTS who need those rights protected.

And who the HELL are you protecting by treating CSA prevention as if it& #39;s about YOU not having to be GROSSED OUT.
Please don& #39;t distribute content you think is illegal. It would put you in the position of & #39;possession and distribution& #39;. Report content if you believe a Real Human Child with Human Rights was abused in the making of that content, and never distribute it. EVER.
But I know there won& #39;t be enough people to read this thread & understand the impact false reports have in averting necessary resources in protecting children. There won& #39;t be enough people upset that human rights violations accusations get carelessly thrown at artists/writers.
Not until the day an actual child/survivor is directly harmed by this horrible precedent we& #39;ve set. Not only will it ultimately feed into their survivor guilt, to have countless strangers "ew" at their abuse photos, but it will literally destroy that survivor& #39;s self-perception.
And I am so, so scared for that survivor. I am so worried about where this conversation is going because it& #39;s only going to hurt people the longer we allow CSA prevention to remain an issue of disgust over protecting human rights.
Reset the precedent.

Refuse to accept anything less than a serious, factual conversation on Child Sex Abuse Prevention.

Refuse to accept anything more than useless speculation regarding the matters of fictional content & the rights of fictional characters.
