have put these employees on the PAYE database via HMRC's Real Time Information system on or before 19 March. Because not all employees are notified to HMRC on day one of employment, this will still mean significant numbers of employees won't be able to get the furlough payment.
That said, HMRC says the change will enable a further 200,000 to claim the furlough payment
HM Treasury insist it was always case employees had to be on PAYE system to qualify for furlough. So this an unalloyed gain for employees. Not sure why businesses and MPs did not get this. It is clear Sunak has responded to widespread view original cut off date unfair
