Anne Of Green Gables: Fire & Dew - Movie Review
I watched it so you don't have to :)
This Movie Review will be divided in parts.
There will be special points (highlights) throughout the entire thread.
Pics and Videos included.
Part 1: Characters.
-Anne Shirley: still no freckles. She wants to be a teacher, member and founder of the "I hate Gilbert Blythe" club.
-Matthew Cuthbert: he talks less now because he doesn't have that much screen time.
-Marilla Cuthbert: she wears glasses now and talks.
-Diana Barry: Anne's best friend.
-Gilbert Blythe: member and founder of the "I'm in love with Anne Shirley" club.
-Jane Andrews and Ruby Gillis: (the cutest, that's why a put them together)
Charlie is not in this movie. I know, how disappointing. Heart = Broken.
-Moody Spurgeon: he has two lines in the entire movie, not entirely sure he's even in this.
Part 2: The Story.
The movie starts with Matthew walking in the woods.
Anne reads a story to her friends.
Anne first day of school outfit. (I'll comment in this later on, oh boi)
Matthew gives Anne a box of crayons.

(she never uses them so... Example 1 of a completely unnecessary scene)
Anne goes to school and she hates Gilbert (I don't even know why)
Then Miss Stacey teaches the kids how to paddle.

(Example 2 of a completely unnecessary scene: this scene adds nothing to the story, they never touch the subject again except for one other time... In a DREAM sequence)
Gilbert's trying to sing in French in Anne's dream.
Anne is reading a romance novel in class while Miss Stacey is explaining geometry (good thing she's good at geometry right? WRONG). Miss Stacey sees her because she's not subtle at all.
Miss Stacey offers Anne the opportunity to go to Queens.
Diana is not going to Queens because her parents think it's a waste of money.
Moody Spurgeon comes to Avonlea!
The kids start preparing for the Queens entrance exam.
Anne starts reciting the beginning of De bello Gallico of Julius Caesar.

(I study Classic Philology at university, I know the beginning of this book by memory. She's pronouncing it terribly, but I guess it could be difficult for an anglophone to pronounce, so I forgive her)
Quick side note: this is how you actually pronounce it.

(Jeje)
Another spelling bee scene.
Then there's stretching scene.

(Example 3 of a completely unnecessary scene)
Queens entrance exams.
The stress clear in her face...
Exam results.

(Example 1 of bad acting/directing: you can't tell me any of them are excited...)
Anne says goodbye to Marilla.
Anne's homesick.
Their first day in Queens.
Anne and Gilbert are in the same class.

(How convenient)
Anne's jealous because Gilbert spends a lot of time with Josie Pye.

(you have no right girl.)
They go to a "Tea Dance"

(The cringe is REAL in this scene. I hate it so much)
Cringy Dance Scene Part 2.
The exams to win the Avery Scholarship.
Result of the exams. Anne stays outside because she's scared of the result.

(Example 2 of bad acting/directing)
It's graduation time *cheers*
Anne's speech.

(Example 3 of bad acting/directing: what a horrible speech)
Anne goes back to Avonlea.

(I kinda like this scene, but just a bit. I don't even know what I like about it)
Diana tells Anne about Fred Wright, Gilbert has a job and Matthew is sick.
Matthew tells Anne who proud of her he is.
Matthew dead.
Here's the scene where he dies.
I forgot to say... Example 4 of bad acting/directing: What a horrible scene, it's supposed to be sad but I actually find it kinda funny.
Matthew's funeral.

(Example 5 of bad acting/directing: I cringe so hard every time she says Kindred Spirits)
Matthew's funeral.
Gilbert and Anne talk (she only says Thank you to him... Don't ask why, I dont know)
Anne cries for Matthew. (LOOK! TEARS! well that's a first)
Marilla goes to the oculista and Anne makes fun of her glasses... (cringe)
Marilla talks to Matthew. She literally blames him for choosing a terrible bank and they've lost their money.
Anne talks to Miss Stacey, and she tells Anne she should go to anywhere so she can succeed a lot more instead of going to Redmond.
Anne completely ignores Miss Stacey's advice. So... The last scene was: Example 5 of a completely unnecessary scene.
Marilla wants to sell Green Gables.
Diana gives Anne a bike.
Example 5 of a completely unnecessary scene AND Example 6 of bad acting/directing (this scene wins all omg)

Diana: *claps* be careful WOH *claps* WOH be careful
Rachel Lynde tells Anne Marilla used to date John Blythe.
Rachel Lynde underrates LATIN and GREEK.

(The Classic Philologist in me is about to kill her)
Anne and Gilbert walk and talk. Cringe. Just watch. Part 1.
Walk Part 2.

Example of 7 of bad acting/directing (this applies for the entire scene)
Marilla sees Anne and Gilbert walking together and she's all *heart eyes*
Anne's all *heart eyes* after walking with Gilbert.
Anne daydreams (about Gilbert)
Anne talks to Matthew and says and I quote "God is in heaven and all is right with the world"

wHAt
The end of the movie.
Part 4: Costumes and Set design
She's 14 she should not be wearing that.
Any of them should be wearing that.
They are lying on the ground but their dresses are SUPER clean.
The sets are the same. Still too perfect for the period.
Please notice how I skipped from part 2 to part 4. I'm an idiot, let’s continue.
Part 3: Directing Choices
This shot is AWFUL. nonono. Those angles... Oh God.
An example of a GOOD shot. This is a great way of showing the students are nervous without even showing their faces or saying "I'm nervous". I like this. Good.
Part 5: Final Thoughts.
The entire movie doesn't make any sense, Anne is 14 and she's going to Queens. How is that even possible??
They're kids and they finished college and are going to work. The actors clearly don't have enough age to play young college graduates/school teachers, they were literally in school a few months before.
I give this movie a 3/10. Bad, just... Bad. It's a 1:26 hours movie and it took me 3 hours to watch it. I seriously considered to stop watching it, I don't know how I finished it. (fun fact, I got an ad at the end)
(I forgot to say how much I hate the hair styles)
