My favorite thing about the Brain Geniuses is how confident they are that it'll just kill a couple hundred thousand people and then go away. No possibility of it changing, mutating, spreading quicker, hitting harder, or getting exponentially out of control.

They think there is some Rational tradeoff of known/fixed quantities that can be weighed on the great scale of Reason. But nothing about this is fixed. So they pretend like the greater risks just don't exist in order to make their logic seem cool and composed.

And that's not even addressing this being just another example of people somehow thinking that a rampant virus, still contagious, still out there, constantly killing people won't wreck the economy all on its own.
