I covered Cuba in the 90’s. During one of Fidel Castro’s speeches he spoke in the blistering heat, in his uniform, for 7 hours, with no break. Two hours was taken up with him reading from a thick printout the names of every occupation one could have on his island.
“Sanitation worker! Nurse! Ballet instructor!” It was unending and nonsensical. He would stab the printout with his index finger to emphasize the jobs he found particularly crucial. If people in the crowd started to nod off, they were bumped awake by the butt of soldier’s gun.
So, that’s what came to mind when I read about our deranged leader’s CEO list yesterday. Trump needs a stage, needs absolute power, and — when he has nothing to contribute — hogs the airwaves with lists he reads aloud. My only question: what happens if he sees us nodding off?
