Francine Jamison-Tanchuck really captured the sleek, structured power dressing of corporate 90’s in Boomerang — Jacqueline’s looks were of the moment, forward + timeless all at the same time. Feminine. Soft but not fragile.

We Stan Black costume designers for Black films.
The subtle deets — that butterscotch blouse under the sage green suit is amazing enough but then a closer look at the suiting reveals a butterscotch pattern. TASTE.

This look indicates that Jacqueline keeps up with trends as the Pea Green Pantone ‘Oasis’ was super popular in 93
Jacqueline enters the movie sequence in a green look — Forest green was THEE PANTONE of 92 + again shes in 1993’s pea green Pantone ‘osasis’

Her clothes are telling us/Marcus who she is before it’s revealed — This is a woman dressing in the moment AND a season ahead. AN EXEC💅🏽
I loved Angela’s costumes. Perfectly contrasted to Jacqueline. No structured pieces, boho, beading. Comes off as juvenile/naive which she ends up being.

Once she’s promoted into an exec role + she takes on Jackie’s refined style. Becoming who/what she once judged in her naïveté
One of the best costumes in the entire film is pops’ brown mushroom suit - COORDINATE!

But it helps illustrate the nuances of the scene: Troves of 1st gen college educated Black folks entered the workforce in the 80s/90s. What of their country/loud/hilariously tacky parents?😂
"Francine Tanchuck, who is really a brilliant costume designer — she had this blue leisure suit for John Witherspoon + the mushroom suit

‘This is a false choice...There's only 1 way to go. We have to rock the mushroom outfit.'... That was not scripted." - Director, Reggie Hudlin
