1. I briefly worked as an Assistant Store Manager at Macy’s & had a middle aged man go off on me because we only had limited staff & the line was super long.
He told me he worked at Regal Theaters for the last 10 years and he “knew how to run things.” (Continued...⤵️)
2. His wife also had an expired coupon she wanted to use. Mind you it was a busy weekend, and they CHOSE to come in at a peak time of day. He snapped his finger aggressively and kept emphasizing my name, “Come on DEMARCUS!” He obviously could read my red tag. (Continued...⤵️)
3. It had been a hectic week. We were under staffed. No denying it. I’m a capable individual but I can’t exactly pop employees out of my ass. Customers in the long line watched with concerned looks on their faces as the man berated me. It was pretty infuriating.

4. Mind you, I had barely left the USMC at this point & it was my 1st job as civilian.

I FUCKING LOST IT.

5. I’ve never seen someone’s demeanor change so quickly in that instant and I’ve never seen the restless customers start being polite to the cashier who was also being berated.
He apologized.
2 years later I started working as an Account Executive the IT industry 😂(Continued⤵️)
6. Moral of the story:

Be kind to people who are giving you service. Do it for the sake of kindness. But if you can’t, at least do it because you don’t know what they’ve been through.

Your sense of entitlement doesn’t supersede someone else’s dignity.
