Answering a question Texans have been asking for weeks: Texas AG releases statement saying fear of contracting COVID is not a valid excuse to request an absentee ballot, and reminds it’s a crime to lie on the form.
Election administrators will send anyone who asks for an absentee ballot an absentee ballot. They do not verify your claims. That does not prevent the AG or local prosector from investigating. It’s not clear to me if the TX SOS office was even consulted about this.
Literally minutes after they sent this press release, and Judge appears to have reversed this guidance. https://twitter.com/aclu/status/1250514460399321094?s=21 https://twitter.com/aclu/status/1250514460399321094
AG's office appears to have rushed to get that information out during the hearing itself in order to publicize its position. The secretary of state's office appears to have no idea they were planning on such a release.
