So they're seeing that Black and brown folks are dying disproportionately and they're mad enough about staying home to go outdoors and demand local elected officials do things that will worsen the public health state of affairs

And these are the people respectability folks want BIPOC to talk to?? If they've already earmarked certain people as disposable, what makes you think they'd listen to those they're fine with sacrificing

White supremacists don't necessarily want a race war, they just want fewer non-white folks to exist. Consider that a natural virus amplifying the effects of existing, deeply racist systems is getting them just what they asked for

And if the economy rebounds, which they can force to happen by bailing out wealth-hoarding individuals and institutions alike, there will always be two things inextricably tied together, falsely, in the historical narrative:

That the disproportionate deaths of Black and brown folks "helped" this country, made it "better," "stronger," more "productive." The position, unspoken, will be that systemic racism is unfortunate, but useful

This pandemic has the capability of becoming one of the strongest and most central historical narratives backing the "logic" of white nationalism for generations to come

It'll sway white liberals too, because "race" isn't a central factor to them. They want to see themselves as the adults in the room, the rational actors, and they'll have all this DATA encouraging them to shift their positions slightly

Consider that the overwhelming victims of this pandemic may have a darker future to grapple with once this is "all over." Reopening will seem like a new start for many but the beginning of the end for others

This idea that we need to "band together" by ignoring "divisive" things like race right now is misguided to the point of being immoral. There's an existential crisis here that extends far beyond this virus
