It’s Poetry month! Twitter say hello to one of my favorite poets: Amy Lowell (1874-1925).
Her family didn’t approve of women going to college so she educated herself and became drawn to poetry. She was an imagist and a modernist. She once said “God made me a business woman and made myself a poet.”
Throughout her life she was criticized for her appearance and weight. She rose above this, however, by being a cigar-smoking raging lesbian!! Most of her poetry is explicitly wlw (as in it cannot be construed as anything but queer but she did also write very erotic poetry.)
I don’t want this thread to go on forever so I will leave you with perhaps my favorite poem by her entitled “The Taxi.” She said that it and many others is about Ada Dwyer Russell, her partner.

It is also very fitting for these strange times.
