This brittle paper story saddens me sha. The reason I want to build a media platform not driven by kobo kobo advertising or support from someone I can’t say no to. When I couldn’t continue self funding TNA or maintain the quality I crave & didn’t want to take money from sources I
couldn’t say no to, I simply rested the publication this year till when I put together the funds I need. Had two funding offers this year that could carry us another 5-7 years but they were both from politicians so I said a big NO. Even when we ran TNA, it was built out of love &
wasn’t my source of livelihood so I could easily say no to what I didn’t want without fear of opportunity being cut off. I remember a bank asking me to drop a story when Niyi was editor, I said no to them and didn’t bother telling him. He needed that freedom & independence.
Even when we had a private investor money in it, he never dared because he knew that I’d say no without thinking twice and I’m happy that he respected that boundary and stayed away from it.
People don’t even know why I respect Ibim Semenitari so much, I worked for & with her, I made money from her, she’s was a Gov official & you’d say no to her & she’d respect it without any hard feelings or seek to threaten your source of livelihood.
