Why does this take a week to implement, Dr. Williams is asked? He says it takes time to negotiate contracts, workforce could be depleted, etc. Looking at ways to bring in additional volunteers such as students, he says. https://twitter.com/l_stone/status/1250487157770289157
Williams is asked why not test everyone in LTC. He talks about the “evolution” of the policy.
He says some health units are undertaking this. “We think that’s going to happen more and more to give us a snapshot.”
To test everyone - staff and residents - you’d have to do 170K tests, he says. “While it would be nice to do everybody, that is a huge undertaking.”
From the beginning we knew working in multiple facilities was a problem, Williams said, noting it stretched back to SARS.
Williams says he doesn’t have “evidence” this contributed to additional deaths in long term care.
