“Still, just as Bombshell did with its portrait of Megyn Kelly and her Fox News colleagues, the series’ supposedly complex depiction of its conservative white protagonist in some ways shies away from Schlafly’s most unpalatable beliefs.”
The show “pulls its punches about its right-wing protagonist’s history of racism, ultimately making the show’s dramatic stakes and conclusion less powerful and relevant than it could have been, and more of a TV history version of Sean Spicer on Dancing With the Stars.”
Interesting that white actors like Charlize Theron & Cate Blanchett chose this Trump-fascist-fuckery moment in history to convey “complexities” of Bootlickers of White supremacist patriarchy like Megyn Kelly & Phyllis Schlafly, with extra dose of sympathy & no mention of racism.
Theron is a white South African and Blanchett is a white Australian. Both their countries of origins have horrendous histories of their own re race, class & gender. But are they that unaware of those dynamics in US? Both claim to be liberals. So why this false “complexity” shit?
To be clear: make a show that centers Bootlickers of white supremacist patriarchy like Phyllis Schlafly, sure. But don’t think that as you stretch for “complexity” we won’t see what you’re doing: working hard to whitewash a hideous person who belongs in the garbage of history.
Win your Emmy & Golden Globe. We will remember that you were happy to dig into the “complexity” of a white supremacist Bootlicker of Patriarchy who fought against interests of Black women, women of colour, and working class people.

FUCK Phyllis Schlafly & propaganda around her.
And also remember: white women like Phyllis Schlafly and the majority of white women voters who voted for Trump benefit from white supremacist patriarchy. It *is* in their interests.
