ok i think my biggest criticism of acnh is that it feels like a lot of worldbuilding was sacrificed in the name of player convenience. Like what i mean is like for example, getting a haircut in old games had a story to it. U had to go see harriet, who is a character with a story
who helps flesh out the world, and the act of going and getting ur haircut, while not as convenient as just going up to a mirror, was like an event with a story. U had to go visit the store and talk to harriet!! And also...the lack of furniture sets also is detrimental to the
worldbuilding imo bc in a game as simple as ac is, the items are a part of the story. Like there were so many sets of furniture u had to work to complete and they dont...exist anymore as of rn. Which also makes bells in game feel like theres not asmuch of a purpose
anymore bc once u complete house upgrades and hit the limit on infrastructure then rly there are very few other big purchases to make...which makes me less inclined to grind catching bugs and fish bc im like “theres nothing to rly do with what im gonna get out of this” i think
new leaf had a better system with the public works projects than how diy and nook miles are. Like i like the diys but i dont think the system is perfect. And also, the whole multiple currencies and crafting gameplay is p much the same system as in pocket camp, but somehow
pocket camps system to me at least feels like it does it way better. I havent rly put into words yet why i feel this way but i think it comes doen to how there are so many different things to do and get with the currencies and items ur collecting in that game and when compared,
acnh feels empty. Which also it has been brought up that item sets might make a return through events, but i rly am not into that...i have sinilar feelings abt this with how i felt about being cut off from half the island on the first day of playing. I think trying to force a
player to take the game at a slow pace this way is not fun and unnatural, like idk with a game like this i feel like a player should be free to take it at whatever pace they want without having to “cheat” and time travel, like it defeats the whole “do it your way” idea that the
game seems to be pushing, it being limiting players. Anyway these are just my personal thoughts and how i experience the game and im sure everyone else has diff opinions lol. And im probs a little biased bc while i think dlc content to enhance ur games is a fun extra thing i
dont rly like it when it seems like game companies are using it as a crutch to pad out their incomplete game and rn it feels like nintendo is straddling that line and could go either way.
Ok this thread got off track but the main point i wanted to make was the lack of as many permanent npcs and the usual variety of items makes the worldbuilding feel rly lacking and i think its the biggest thing missing from this game when compared to previous ones
