I’ll address this once and for all.
We cannot deny that we live in a patriarchal society. We cannot deny that there exists a feudal and bourgeois view of women. More importantly, we cannot deny the fact that there is a bigger problem (IPBK) as to why women are oppressed.

Big words, noh? Eh isang tiktok video lang naman pinag-uusapan natin.
Pero ‘yang isang tiktok video na yan, na pinost ng isang sikat na influencer, reached thousands of people already.
Ika nga na media, social media, is this contemporary world’s #1 ideological state apparatus.

Some girls find it cute that their guys protect them. That their guys are overprotective of them. They just want you safe.
Trust me, I get it. But why must these girls feel the need to be protected by their boyfriends when we can opt to totally eradicate a system that made —

them feel AS IF they need to be protected?
Another question: why must the way a girl dresses serve as protection for her? Why don’t we call out the people who blatantly disrespect a person REGARDLESS of what they are wearing?

To say that we are merely overthinking that action also in a way romanticizes how this society has oppressed women and continues to oppress women. It urges women to think that you are just putting things out of proportion.
“‘Di ka naman inooppress, pinoprotektahan ka lang.”

Point of clarification: wala akong pake kung mas nagkaroon sila ng opportunities to grow as influencers nung naging sila. Good for them! Get that bread.
Point is to be careful with what they post KNOWING they have a wide audience! Esp if it perpetuates oppressive practices.
