If you live in Los Angeles and want to help out during COVID-19 but aren't sure how, here's a thread of local community support organizations & specific ways you can support them (outside of monetary donations, although most will need/accept that too). #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 1/
The Hollywood Food Coalition partners with Salvation Army and others to provide hot meals and necessities to those in need. Here’s a list of accepted goods from their website: https://hofoco.org/give/  They also need volunteers. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 2/
Upward Bound House @BeUpwardBound helps eliminate homelessness among families with children in LA through bridge housing, emergency shelter & more. They have an Amazon Wishlist of needed items here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/M2IS6IBBAVBL?ref_=wl_share More: http://upwardboundhouse.org  #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 3/
They also recently posted a list of high priority needs on their Twitter: https://twitter.com/BeUpwardBound/status/1248738489081856001?s=20
#ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 4/
After speaking with the Union Rescue Mission, http://urm.org , their biggest need right now is hygiene items, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, socks, underwear, face masks/cloth coverings, gloves, diapers and wipes. @URM #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 5/
If you want to donate any of these high priority items, @URM is at 545 S San Pedro St. to the right of main entrance loading dock. They're open for donations M-F 7am-3pm. Avoid 11-12 since that's lunch and be sure to let them know it is for the guests. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 6/
Harvest Home @HarvestHomeLA is an LA non-profit helping homeless pregnant women & their children. They have an Amazon wishlist for goods like diapers, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid and more here: https://smile.amazon.com/hz/charitylist/ls/34HWF86DNO494/ref=smi_ext_lnk_lcl_cl More: http://harvesthomela.org  #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 7/
UCLA Health: if you’ve recovered from COVID-19, a plasma donation could help save the life of someone currently struggling to stay alive. Even if you haven’t been sick, you could still help save a life with a blood donation. https://www.uclahealth.org/gotblood/  #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 9/
The Los Angeles Red Cross @RedCrossBloodLA is also taking blood donations. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 10/
If you’re looking to get out of the house and are able to volunteer, @RedcrossLA has been teaming up with the Los Angeles Unified School Districts to provide meals across LA. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 11/
Meals on Wheels also needs volunteers. Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles @jfsla provides services for all ages, ethnicities and religions: https://www.jfsla.org  #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 12/
St. Vincent Meals on Wheels @stvmow is another local Meals on Wheels provider. Their mission: No Senior Goes Hungry: https://www.stvincentmow.org  #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 13/
California Health Corps: if you’re a medical provider, medical resident or nursing student you can get paid to be staffed in emergency medical positions: https://covid19.ca.gov/healthcorps/  @CAPublicHealth #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 14/
The People Concern @ThePplConcern aims to help everyone in Los Angeles be #HousedHealthySafe They're currently running a #CHALLENGEFORGOOD where you can donate via their Amazon wishlist. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 15/
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s mission is to alleviate hunger by distributing food to seniors, families and other individuals in need. It's also listed on the National Diaper Bank. The best way to help the @LAFoodBank is to host a virtual food drive. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 17/
The @LAFoodBank is a huge one. They provide food to many many local food pantries. Hosting a virtual food drive helps because they are able to buy in bulk, saving a lot of money & stretching every dollar. Start here: https://www.lafoodbank.org/wefeedla  #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 18/
LA Food Bank also needs volunteers, and like many organizations are in desperate need of hand sanitizer, gloves, masks. Here are a few local food pantries I spoke to listed on their site: #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 19/
Food pantry: If you are able to donate goods, the JFS/SOVA Community Food & Resource Program, 801 N. Kings Road, 90069, is requesting tuna, other canned meat and can openers. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 20/
The Bread of Life Foursquare Gospel Church, 5175 1/2 W. Washington St. 90016 needs paper bags with handles, paper towels, toilet paper, & gift cards to Smart and Final @smartfinal The best drop off times are Tues. 10-2, Wed. 8:30-4, Fri 10-1. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 21/
Please feel free to add to this list, there are many ways to help at this time, like supporting local businesses including media outlets like @latimes @THR, etc. A small act of reaching out to ppl can go a long way, as well as simply staying home. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 25/
If you're in the entertainment industry and part of a local union like @sagaftra @IATSE or @directorsguild - check out their sites for emergency assistance options to get help, or if you are able to help out. #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 27/
This one is national, but @ljehartley told me about the Crisis Text Line: a free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis in the US (they're also in Canada & the UK). Volunteer here: https://www.crisistextline.org/become-a-volunteer/

Or if you're in crisis, text HOME to 741741 #ThinkGlobalActLocalLA 28/
