Europe’s top u25 goal-scorers 💥

In this analysis thread, I have used data to find the best under 25 goal-scorers in Europe’s top 5 leagues.

Two graphs identify the quality of goal-scorers and then I pick 3 ‘stand out performers’ and 3 ‘ones to watch’.

Let’s start 👇
Who is performing above/below xG?

Using non-penalty figures creates a level playing field when analysing shot performance. Håland proves to be an absolute monster while Greenwood, Schick and Maja also impress.
Which players would benefit from more supply?

This graph shows players who perform well despite shooting far less. It shows a slight difference to graph one with Dembele and Embolo doing well despite less output. Such figures suggest they could perform better with more service.
Standout performers 🔥

The two graphs have shown a number of top performers with some very impressive numbers. Below, I pick my top three with radars for each player.
1. Kylian Mbappe (21)

It’s easy to forget how many years Mbappe has still got ahead of him. At 21 years old, he has the world at his feet and shows up to be one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Europe. Here’s to hoping he’ll challenge himself again soon.
2. Erling Braut Håland (19)

If Håland’s Dortmund career continues as it has started, he could become one of the best goal-scorers in European football. He’s quite clearly born to be in front of goal and the 19-year-old will be a joy to watch over the coming years.
3. Timo Werner (24)

Links with a move to Liverpool really excite me. Not only does he have an innate ability to score goals, but Werner has the tactical awareness that would highly suit Klopp’s style of play.

Goals galore.
Ones to watch 👀

The three names above are fairly obvious, but it's now time for three picks that I think could make a step up to the next level soon.

We start in France 🇫🇷
1. Josh Maja (21)

The former Sunderland striker has scored registered 8 goal contributions this season and could develop well with more game time. Such numbers over 725 minutes points towards a promising future for the Nigerian.
2. Mason Greenwood (18)

Much has been made of the Man Utd forward, but there’s reason to believe the hype. He is clearly comfortable in front of goal. Here’s to hoping that Solskjaer can develop him to become the player he looks.
3. Breel Embolo (23)

The Swiss forward is less discussed than Thuram and Plea, but he’s a promising well-rounded forward who has a number of key attributes and has performed well over his xG this season despite infrequent output.
