1. Concerned about the economy?
Last week we run a 3 question survey at http://oec.world . We asked people about jobs, concerns, & lost business. We obtained +6,000 answers. Here are the results for all countries with +75 responses. (Thread)
2. The sample has all of the limitations of online data collection. The sample comes from http://oec.world , which visualizes trade & has ~500k monthly users. Users come mostly from the education sector, finance, government, & export-imports.
So what did we find?
3. We first asked:
Are you concerned about the economic impact of COVID-19?
The most concerned countries in our sample were Portugal, Mexico, India, & Brazil. On the opposite side we find Netherlands, Australia, & Germany.
4. Then we asked:
Have you or anyone you know lost a job due to the COVID-19 outbreak?
Here, the highest numbers were from responders from Spain, Australia, & Canada (+70%). The lowest number was from Germany (<40%).
5. Finally we asked: Have you lost any business due to coronavirus?
Here, we find dire responses for India, Mexico, Chile, & Colombia; which are countries with relatively high levels of informality. The most "positive" responses were in Spain, Netherlands, & Germany.
6. Overall, while this has the limitations of an online survey, the results show an interesting trend. Responders from Germany and Netherlands respond relatively positively, especially compared to those in Latin America (except Argentina).
