English is WHACK:

they’re - contraction of they are
their- possessive (it’s their hat)
There - directional (over there)

it’s- cont. of it is
its- possessive (its features)

your- possessive (your hat)
you’re- cont. of you are

Props to people learning ESL out there!!!
Also this bullshit (thank you @swheatpodcasts for reminding me)
Words that are spelt the same but are pronounced differently depending on context:

Tear - to rip (TARE)
Tear- crying (TEER)

read- currently reading (REED)
read- past tense of that^ (RED) (I read yesterday)

Bow- bend @ the waist to show respect (BOW)
Bow- a ribbon 🎀 (BOE)
Affect- verb (what is affecting you?)
Effect- noun (what is the effect?)
desert- dry hot environment
Dessert- what you eat after dinner

Wound- to wrap (WOWND)
Wound- injury (WOOND)

Produce- to make (pro-DUCE)
Produce- vegetables/fruits (PRO-duce)

Present- right now (PRE-sent)
Present- a gift (PRE-sent)
Present- to show off (pre-SENT)
“She told him that she loved him.”

You can insert the word ‘only’ anywhere in the above sentence to change what the sentence means.
Similarly, and MORE infuriatingly, depending on which word you emphasize/put stress on, the following sentence changes meanings:

“I didn’t say she took my money!”
Examples:

*I* didn’t say she took my money (but someone else said she did)

I didn’t say *she* took my money (but *he* did)

I didn’t say she took *my* money (she took someone else’s money)

Etc.

I WANT TO SCREAM I can’t imagine how hard it is to learn our shitpost language
