getting back into reading manga & watching anime (a thread, to reflect my thoughts).
i finished reading saikano, have yet to watch the anime. it was phenomenal (spoilers ahead)
the manga perfectly executed human feeling & interaction. i haven’t felt for characters like this in a long time.
i think what hooked me was one of the first scenes.
when shuji & chise were going to break up but then came to the same conclusion.
“we’re going to fall in love.”
character development got me a lot.
when the manga began & chise had first become a ‘weapon’ for the military, shuji would freak out a lot; “what were you thinking?!”, etc. he at first glance had been a very stereotypical tsundere archetype.
as the manga progressed, he stopped worrying the way he used to. he worried for chise, but didn’t project it onto her.
chise had PHENOMENAL character development as well.
when we first met her, she was a timid shy type. the continuous “i’m sorry”’s, etc. her over formality. when she first submit to the hands of the military, she hated what she was doing. she hated herself.
as the manga went on, she’d become indifferent to it.
all the little moments of intimacy between chise & shuji stuck out to me. all the mistakes (huge ones, at that) they both made stuck out.
my rating? uh yeah a solid 12/10.

other names it goes by:
“saikano: my girlfriend, the ultimate weapon” “she, the ultimate weapon” “saishuu heiki kanojo” “saikano: the last love song in this little planet”.

also i might add to this thread later on as more stuff comes to mind.
