Minneapolis friends! Federal #COVID19 checks are arriving. For some, they're embarrassingly inadequate. If you're one of the lucky ones like me with steady employment, here's a few charities doing vital work that could use a small slice of your check. Please reply with more! 1/8
The International Institute of Minnesota is an amazing nonprofit that provides services to immigrants: tutoring, college-prep classes, English instruction, refugee resettlement, and now, unfortunately, help filling out complicated unemployment forms. (3/8) https://iimn.org/covid-19/
The Minnesota Freedom Fund pays cash bail and immigration bonds for people who are only locked up because they don't have money—which could mean the difference between life and death in facilities ripe for coronavirus outbreak (4/8) https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/
Simpson Housing Services has provided shelter to people experiencing homelessness for almost 40 years. They led the "navigation center" that provided services to people living in the Franklin/Hiawatha encampment in 2018/2019. (5/8)

The Minnehaha Food Shelf is the food pantry near me, but there's almost certainly one for your neighborhood as well—if they're still operating, they probably need help, and MONEY makes the biggest impact. (6/8)

If there isn't a reliable food pantry near you, check out Second Harvest Heartland instead—they're a massive Twin Cities food bank that works with dozens of smaller orgs to distribute millions of meals per year. (7/8) https://www.2harvest.org/
These are the nonprofits I'm most familiar with, but there are countless others. Share them on whatever social media platforms you're on. I don't know how to end this thread without sounding sanctimonious, but people are looking for ways to help. Help them figure out how. (8/8)
