New: @CityOfLasVegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman says during City Council meeting that shutdown has become "one of total insanity," with no data to back up the closures and no plan to maneuver through or out of it.
Goodman offers "sympathies and condolences" to those who have lost loved ones, but says less than 1/2 of 1 percent of population "which has caused us to shutdown the entire state and everything that makes Nevada unique."
Goodman lamenting economic loss, stress on unemployed workers: "From my perspective, we must open our city. We must open southern Nevada and we must open the state of Nevada."
"We are adults with brains who can ... take all precautions not to spread this disease. But we cannot put our heads in the sand" and think the disease it will go away.
Closures are "killing Las Vegas," Goodman says, and the longer the wait the more impossible a recovery will be.
