This point gets at something I’ve been uneasy about generally wrt bike/ped advocacy. https://twitter.com/oaklandbikelab/status/1250145398921953281">https://twitter.com/oaklandbi...
Often only a superficial connection made btw e.g. asthma and bike/ped projects as solution - not-uncommon hand waviness made worse by not actually thinking through the direct connection btw bike lanes (much less one particular bike lane) and asthma.
not as comfortable w other points (do we know parents care about their kids having asthma? ...yes?) and doesn’t seem to me that as emergency measures go opening streets to allow more space for people who aren’t in cars is a bad one. But specifics of Oakland are lost on me.
Reading this thread clarified what’s behind unease, ie saviorism of bike/ped advocacy even at time like this. https://twitter.com/brownbikegirl/status/1247648802128957440?s=21">https://twitter.com/brownbike... https://twitter.com/brownbikegirl/status/1247648802128957440">https://twitter.com/brownbike...
