Article states that two “gain of function” flu projects (unnamed) were also given waivers, along with the 5 MERS projects - wouldn’t this have been with Fauci’s approval?

“Moratorium on risky experiments lifted for MERS mouse studies | Science | AAAS” https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2014/12/moratorium-risky-experiments-lifted-mers-mouse-studies
Here are the 2014 letters sent out in response to the FOIA. Two of these were flu projects that got waivers and continued research.

At least one letter recipient (UNC) had worked with Wuhan Lab researchers. Perhaps others too?

The moratorium was voluntary according to those letters, & researchers could continue to the end of the budgeted grant period. So were the 2 flu project waivers to allow research AFTER current grant period? See for example, the UNC letter. UNC had worked with Wuhan researchers:
Note that ALL the 18 letters appear to have asked for voluntary cooperation to the end of the budgeted grant period. So the public needs to see December 2014 waiver letters to 5 MERS and 2 flu projects. What were they granted in the waivers? @TomFitton @diana_west_ @Harvard2H
And the most important questions: What were the 2 flu projects granted waivers to continue "gain of function" research under the Obama administration? Who were the researchers? And were Wuhan/other Chinese researchers involved at any time in these projects' grant periods?
That UNC research (authorized and funded under the Obama administration) was controversial when first published. Did they get a waiver? Did they even need one? (and ignore that 3/11/2020 "update" since now most agree COVID-19 came from a lab). https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/lab-made-coronavirus-triggers-debate-34502
The Scientist on the UNC research (co-author Wuhan labs "Bat Lady") https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/lab-made-coronavirus-triggers-debate-34502

"engineer a virus with the surface protein of the SHC014 coronavirus found in horseshoe bats in China, and the backbone of one that causes human-like severe acute respiratory syndrome...
And...Baric was given the go-ahead by NIH (which...would have been Fauci, no?)

"NIH allowed it to proceed during a review process, which eventually led to the conclusion that the work did not fall under the new restrictions, Baric told Nature."
Right, so of course, it was Gilead who funded - and had earlier been funding - the research at UNC on GS-5734 (Remdesivir) as a treatment for SARS/Corona viruses...

https://sph.unc.edu/sph-news/gillings-researchers-receive-6m-grant-to-fight-infectious-disease/
Cui bono?

"RDV was developed in 2017 through a public-private partnership funded by the National Institutes of Health between investigators at the University of North Carolina, Vanderbilt University’s School of Medicine and Gilead Sciences, Inc."

https://sph.unc.edu/sph-news/gillings-research-on-broad-spectrum-antiviral-could-aid-public-health-response-to-coronavirus-outbreaks/
And UNC announces that Remdesivir (RDV) may work against the COVID-19 virus and Hey guess what? They've got experience testing "these kinds of viruses" -

But they have experience because they engineered a similar (identical?) virus themselves - with Wuhan's collaboration!
Reminder that the UNC engineering of a chimeric COVID-19 type virus, along with cooperation with Wuhan labs Zhengli Shi (and others) was authorized under the Obama Administration.

The Obama moratorium on Gain of Function research lasted ...*two months* http://cidrap.umn.edu
Reminder: the Obama administration "review" and "moratorium" were highly criticized for lack of transparency, lack of expertise, *conflict of interest*

Two experts cite a perceived lack of public and global input, as well as potential conflict of interest http://cidrap.umn.edu
Let’s look at an organization that brought Chinese and US agencies & researchers together - especially UNC’s Ralph Baric and Wuhan Lab’s Zhengli Shi - the Ecohealth Alliance.

Isolating the virus that would be reengineered at UNC with “gain of function” https://www.ecohealthalliance.org/2013/10/new-sars-like-coronavirus-discovered-in-chinese-horseshoe-bats
In 2015 Peter Daszak, President of Ecohealth Alliance and Zhengli Shi, the Wuhan “bat lady” researcher working with UNC’s Ralph Baric, created a US-China Govt to Govt working group on infectious diseases https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4700097/#__ffn_sectitle
You've heard of China's "One Belt One Road" initiative? Daszak, Zhengli Shi et al proposed "One Health" from the Collaborative Workshop on the Ecology & Evolution of Infectious Disease, sponsored by both the US & China’s National Science Foundations in Kunming China October 2012.
Original link gone but here's archive of Wuhan Institute of Virology 2015 claim that Zhengli Shi & Xingyi Ge, with UNC, Harvard Medical School et alia were engineering a chimeric virus, at the same time Daszak et al were proposing more US-China cooperation

March 2015, just after NIH halted "gain of function" research (but not for UNC), Ralph Baric and UNC applied for a patent "Methods and compositions for chimeric coronavirus spike proteins," apparently assigned (in part?) by UNC to NIH in 2017.

Back to Wuhan researchers...

Recap:
Archive of Wuhan Institute of Virology 2015 claim that Zhengli Shi & Xingyi Ge, with UNC, Harvard Medical School et alia engineered a chimeric virus, at same time Daszak et al were proposing more US-China cooperation
https://web.archive.org/web/20200319184758/http://english.whiov.cas.cn/Research2016/Research_Progress2016/201712/t20171215_187953.html
But 6 months later, Nature Medicine published a correction to the article: "the authors omitted to acknowledge a funding source, USAID-EPT-PREDICT funding from EcoHealth Alliance, to Z.-L.S."

(Cute use of initials..) Presumably Z.-L.S. was Zhengli-Li Shi https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7095988/
So in April 2016, someone (Nature Medicine? USAID?) decided to disclose that USAID had funded Wuhan Virology Institute's Zheng-Li Shi (also known as Z.-L.S....), *through* the EcoHealth Alliance.

(See above for Peter Daszak's EcoHealth Alliance's push for US/China info sharing)
In parallel, a fascinating & detailed discussion of Gilead's development of remdesivir (over the same period as the Obama administration-authorized "gain of function" work on viruses at UNC under Baric, collaborating with Wuhan/s Zhengli-Shi).
