Any technical cinephiles out there who can explain the reason for the effect visible here, common in older movies, in which a fading title "detours" briefly through a bright color on its way to black? I feel like it must be pretty basic but… I do not possess even basic knowledge
It has something to do with how titles used to be composited, but, there's the problem: I have no idea how titles used to be composited!

Here: notice how the white titles "detour" through red on their way in & out. So, yes, this is obviously "an optical thing having to do with how they composited titles on film, before computers" but I want to know ~the details~
