Let me tell you my story of #covid19. On Mar 11th I bumped into @22fr22 a good friend of mine at @MezeFreshRw with another colleague of mine, who later tested positive 1 week after. We hugged, shook hands. After that we parted ways, washed my hands and left.
The 2 days later I flew to Kenya took a train to Mombassa for a wedding on Saturday and back to Kigali Sunday night. As I was a about to board my flight, @RBCRwanda called to let me know that @22fr22 had tested +ve for #covid19. I thought it was a joke, I had to verify with him.
I thought how I had infected soo many people at the wedding, at Train stations, the friends and family in Nairobi. I couldn't believe it. Many questions went through my head:
- What happens when I test +ve?
- Who pays for the bill?
- How will I get back to Rwanda?
The Health services at JMK were notified, I was given a mask and gloves and Isolated. I was panicking, confused, the ambulance took me to Mbagathi Hospital. I was lucky had friends checking on me and sending food, fruits and books to read. Thank you very much! @DavidEwagata
I was in a room by myself, next door I could hear people coughing, and more panicking and anxiety. Got tested on the 16th and the results came back negative the following day. I spent 3 days in Mbagathi.
I was treated fairly in Kenya, top professionalism. When I arrived in #Rwanda 2 days before the lockdown, I was also tested again on arrival just to confirm. And went into quarantine for 14 days. My wife had also met @22fr22 days before, so she was also in quarantine back home.
I want to thank the Rwandan Embassy in Kenya for following up and arranging with airport security to let me through, and @FlyRwandAir for waiting for me till last the very minute when I also missed my flight, I was running in the airport.
Thank you @RBCRwanda and @RwandaHealth for calling every day to check on us. The behind the scenes are happening to fight #covid19 is unimaginable. Please keep up the good work.
During quarantine in Kigali, depression and anxiety kicked in, hearing our friends testing positive. We went to get tested again, the 3 times I was a tested and 2 times my wife, they all came back negative.
So, people of Rwanda, STAY HOME and stay safe, this #covid19 pandemic we can beat it. The @RwandaGov has a great leadership keeping us all safe. Thank you.
