Really wish I could share some pics from my walk to the pharmacy yesterday, but after having someone identify my neighborhood from some graffiti when I lived in SF, I have to carefully consider what images I post.

I've talked to other women about this, and sadly it's a thing 😓 https://twitter.com/ChloeCondon/status/1250444294889934850
I think about this tweet by @LaydiexSkull a lot. I often post images weeks/months later to avoid having my location discovered 😞 The interweb is great sometimes, but has also made me extremely cautious from previous experience. https://twitter.com/LaydiexSkull/status/1236440001304342528?s=19
Anyway, I don't say this to bring the mood down. Just want to make folks more aware of why I don't ever answer tweets/dms about location to strangers.

Also, be mindful of when you ask women what hotel they are staying at during conferences. 🙃
I met a girl @ an event who bought several styles of wedding 💍s from AliBabba she wears to confs & a man STILL asked to have a "meeting" w/ her that she quickly realized was a date.

I know not every human is bad- but there are enough bad humans to make me cautious 😓😣
So anyway, when you start seeing me posting pics with @elliottvbell from Prague in a week or two, know that I'm still social distancing 😅 that was months ago. 🇨🇿
If you'd like to be a good ally, plz 🐝 mindful of these types of location questions/comments, & call out that behavior when you see it happen.

I know not everyone's intentions are malicious, & everyone makes mistakes. But helping folks realize how scary this can be is step 1.
Additionally, do not require employees to list/document the Airbnb/hotel/etc they'll be at staying at for events (or require a particular location for all employees) in a public doc to employees. So many women are afraid to speak up, but this can make some of us feel very unsafe.
tldr: be mindful of requesting location specifics, regardless of gender/public presence/etc. You'd be surprised to hear how many folks travel with additional door stops/locks/etc while on the road. I'd love to say I'm being paranoid, but I've heard enough stories 😓 safety first
Even comments like "WOW- such a high floor- BALLER STATUS" from a random dude in a hotel elevator can be extremely triggering.

Be mindful, y'all. You may think it's playful, but you just announced where I'm staying to the entire elevator. stfu 🤦🏼‍♀️
In conclusion, no one should know where I am/what I'm doing/where I'm staying unless I explicitly announce it (for a meet-up, event I'm speaking at, etc).

By calling out this behavior, you can save some folks from a lot of anxiety. ❤️
If you feel awkward/uncomfortable calling out this behavior (understandable), feel free to share this thread and say something like (cont.):
"Hey- I saw [we're/you] [requesting folks list their hotels/asked Jessica where she's staying]. FYI, I learned a lot from this thread on Twitter, and wanted to be mindful of [her/our employees] safety."

Hope this thread has been helpful!
Think I'm being paranoid? I'm glad you feel safe at all times. And I so wish I could show you how many DMs I've gotten in the last hour from women thanking me for this post 🙃

Hope this thread can provide some perspective ❤️
Also, I appreciate all the DMs apologizing for previous slip-ups from dudes who think this is about them/apologizing for the actions of the male gender, but this isn't referencing a specific incident (this happens v often) so plz just do better going forward my dudes 🙃❤️
