The fact that HOMECOMING (2019) was the first time Beyoncé showed her face on album cover since 4 (2011) 💀
It's very fascinating to me. Because in pop (arguably more than any other genre) your music is so tied to your physical appearance/image, and for you to go almost a decade without putting your face on your product. Four consecutive projects without her face!
Lemonade is the only one with her body on it. I keep thinking about how big of a deal it was when Ariana finally put out a colored album cover for Sweetener, the evolution of album covers in relation to the artist's success trajectory is so interesting.
Views and The Pinkprint are arguably Drake and Nicki's biggest albums/eras. Drake is barely visible on the cover and TPP is Nicki's only album without her face/body on it.
Back to the point about Ariana/Sweetener cover. Remember when it was a *thing* when Lana finally smiled on the Lust for Life album cover??
I think I'll write about this. Would y'all read it?
