has been a longstanding curiosity of mine why Welsh & Scottish nationalism have found such different expressions & levels of success, & think @stephenkb's explanation in last weeks NS podcast of the distinction between a nation conquered & one merged is one of the most compelling
have always just found it strange that Wales being more 'nationy' in many respects such as having a language & claim to be decedents of the ancient population of Britain is far less nationalist than Scotland & PC are useless compared to SNP
but in retrospect those features of Welsh nationalism probably make it less inclusive in the same way that the narrative of having been conquered does, and ultimately makes it a less appealing proposition
