A kid told an icky story about her dad marrying his child bride, as terrifying as that it is, it’s something more common in our cultural fabric than we care to admit. Her defense is hating feminists, homophobia and religious examples. Do you not see a structural problem here?
Remember the first time in years when our illusion of reality was broken? It was probably a less violent learning, yet often leads to depressive episodes or denial. Bullying and expecting a kid to attack her parents, assuming her caretakers, is the last thing that will help.
At the fear of sounding sympathetic, you can’t bully someone into moral righteousness, when it’s a structural problem. Perhaps we can agree that we’re all on different levels of unlearning our preconceived notions and gaining moral consciousness is a long painful journey.
