A thread of my fav old school hip hop artists:
Biggie, a gifted storyteller with a sense of humor, and his narratives about the violent life of the streets were told with a realism that won him enormous respect.Went from a street hustler to a tragic victim of the culture of violence he depicted so realistically on his records.
N.W.A, the unapologetically violent and sexist pioneers of gangsta rap, are in many ways the most notorious group in the history of rap. Their clashing egos prevented the band from recording a third album, and they fell apart once producer Dr. Dre left for a solo career in 1992.
Ice Cube is one of the most crucial artists in rap history. In my opinion he made the biggest diss track “No Vaseline” to the NWA after he left over royalty issues. He still continues to make gangsta rap
Dr. Dre, pioneer of gangsta rap first on the N.W.A, his rhymes were simple and clumsy but was an extraordinary producer. Thanks to the singles "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang," "Dre Day," and "Let Me Ride," The Chronic was a multi-platinum,and the entire world of hip-hop changed with it.
Mobb Deep stood as East Coast hardcore rap figure on the basis of their album The Infamous, it was more hardcore than Illmatic and Ready to Die,the beats were darker and harder hitting, while the rhymes were downright threatening yet still inventive and crafty.
