Defensive Midfielder: Mikel Merino (23)

Merino plays best when he sits just in front of the back four, which would allow for ndombele/lo celso to play freely. Merino has played a key part in Sociedads success this season, and reads the game extremely well.

Atal’s versatility is what separates him from the rest of the candidates. He can be deployed anywhere on the right side, and even on the left wing. He is a silky dribbler of the ball, and is the definition of a modern fullback.

Left Back: Borna Barisic (27)

Assuming the signing of Atal, Barisic would provide the stability and balance required if we decide to drop into a back 3 whilst on the attack. He could perform the LCB role perfectly, but can also offer quality in attack.

At age 24, Mike Maignan’s best days are yet to come. He has played in 100% of the games in the 2019/20 season, and has conceded 24 goals in 28 games. His great goalkeeping is why Lille found themselves 4th in Ligue 1.

Hwang Hee-Chang (24)

The Korean can be employed anywhere along the front three. He also plays well when playing with a second striker (ie Kane). Salzburg have also said they’re willing to part ways with him in the summer.
