What's been surprising is how quickly the leaders of the left populist world have packed it up. I suspect Joe Biden will be more populist than people think because of national security concerns over China, but if not, Josh Hawley may have the populist economic lane to himself. https://twitter.com/RyanLizza/status/1250427773929181186
Progressives misunderstand Democratic leaders, imagining that they have a distinct agenda from that of Pelosi, Schumer, etc. Perhaps that was so as late as a few weeks ago, but no longer. It's over. Bernie and Warren made it clear change isn't coming from the left.
Whereas a good number of conservatives saw Trump's election as a signal they needed to reexamine conservative ideology and built a community to do that, progressive leaders decided they already had all the answers. It's why conservatives govern, and progressives fulminate.
The left and progressives as political actors are profoundly uncurious about the world, which is why they can't see their own role. But until they reckon with failure and stop blaming the corporate establishment, the media, Democratic leaders, etc, they will continue to fail.
Anyway, I'm finding myself politically homeless, which is somewhat freeing.
