BREAKING: Reports of anti-social behaviour have increased substantially during outbreak of coronavirus.
In last four weeks, there were 178,000 incidents across England and Wales - a rise of 59 per cent on the same period last year, with over 3,200 fines issued in England.
National Police Chiefs' Council, which published the figures, said the rise was likely to be linked to alleged breaches of the lockdown restrictions. During same period, in the four weeks to April 12, crime has fallen by 28 % overall with 37% reduction in rape and burglary.
In other figures: shoplifting plummeted by 54%, serious assaults, robbery and car crime all down 27%, and reductions in 999 and 101 calls as more people reported offences online...
Figures do not include fraud, with @NCA_LynneOwens warning that criminals were exploiting the crisis by trying to sell Covid-19 testing kits and protection equipment.
"Fraudsters are playing on people's fear," she said.
Lynne Owens has also revealed drug dealers were adapting their methods by wearing high-vis jackets, posing as key workers and doing deals in supermarket car parks.
She says @NCA_UK is "very alive" to potential for rivalry between drug gangs as cocaine prices have gone up
Deputy Chief Constable Sara Glenn, who leads on enforcement for the NPCC during the lockdown, said in the past week there'd been an increase in serious violence which she believed could be linked to addicts finding it harder to get drugs.
