Editing the current chapter as I wait for these matcha muffins to baaaake......

(So far editing has involved deleting things I don’t want to deal with!)

(This chapter is almost twelve thousand words, literally no one is going to care that I cut a spot where I was thinking about citing a blog post, except the most uptight of anthropologists, who wouldn’t like this book very much by chapter 4 anyway.)
