at least this time they doesn’t highlight wikipedia
“Soviet colonialism”

as a person who has only one close relative who’s from central Russia I find it so funny when people talk on the topic THEY DONT ACTUALLY KNOW AT ALL

I found some scientific features about the western ideas of USSR being a colonial country LOL
I don’t care about this Lana stuff BUT what makes me feel mad is ignoring the history of my country

the so-called CoLoNiEs aren’t populated that much and mostly consists of native people (russians prevail only in industrialized regions)

there’re two points =>
=> why the USSR cannot be called colonial

1. Due to ideology people from all around the country and the neighboring countries were invited to central Russia for different purposes (my hometown is build by Polish people and most of the citizens are descendants from Poland).
that makes no reason to colonize the territories cause people were needed in central region the most: my family consists of 2 Kazakh people, one with Mongolian roots and my grandpa from Siberia: all were invited with their families for building my hometown and NPP
so most of the people from Asian part of Russia STILL go to central Russia for work purposes and only a few stay at their native regions and mostly they’re native asian people

2. The climate at these parts of Russia is HARSH. And difficult to adapt to.
So mostly due to industrialization these regions were flooded with big companies providing jobs for Russians with really high salaries only bcuz of the climate and ecological situation. Colonizing a region where it’s hard to live for non-native people? Yeah, that evil Russians
The government still wants people to go to these regions instead because of the resources but everyone wants to go to Moscow instead (hi, I’m also not from Moscow). That’s why a lot of people here are mixed cause during the USSR times EVERYONE went to central Russia themselves.
Lana comes from Sakhalin - an island that is being discussed between Russia and Japan with Korean descendants. It’s far from Central Russia like IT’S ANOTHER END OF THE COUNTRY that has water borders with Japan, Korea and China. And it’s easier to imagine an asian from here.
Plus she has Tatar roots. Tatars have Turkish and Mongolian roots as well. And most of the tatar girls I know have something similar in appearance with Lana (and I’m talking not about the skin). So when I first time saw her I also made an assumption that she’s tatar.
So the idea of this thread is: my country is BIG and has a lot of nations within. And projecting the experience of the other country on it is wrong. Especially with making fun of “stupid evil Russians” by erasing their families’ experiences.
