Y’all probably seen that call to text USPS 50409 to send a letter in support of the postal service to your local representatives.
I just want to share with you why *I* advise taking the 2 minutes to do so. Especially for the “in not of this world” crew who see it inconsequential
1. There are HELLA folk who have ALWAYS relied on the relative safety of ordering supplies through the mail due to their health. Those with disabilities and compromised immune systems especially
2. Folk wish to communicate with their incarcerated loved ones caught up in the prison industrial complex who can’t afford to spend hundreds on a 20 minute phone call/video chat or travel hundreds of miles for visitation
2.2 if it weren’t for letters being sent to loved ones “ on the outside” we wouldn’t be aware of some of the atrocities faced in prisons right now
3. We are in and headed to unprecedented times and how you gon secure retrieval of your documents if the postal service is shut down!? If you are missing any important personal documentation send for that shit now
4. Due to the varying global response of this virus we need to be real careful out and about for the foreseeable future and travel is likely to face some restrictions. USPS brings things into reach
5. Corporations are being bailed out at the expense of individuals. Fuck them. We all we got but we can’t have us if our connectivity is stunted. If we are to develop a sideline economy that spans beyond the arbitrary borders around us we need access
6. Censorship. They can block what we post online they can shadow ban but they CANNOT open your fuckin mail, sis
7. Elections are ongoing and approaching and nobody should be standing out in lines for a day risking their health when absentee ballots are a thing. We can’t do that if they defund the USPS. Make no mistake this is the motivation for many of those opposed to providing support
7.2 You May have decided to be non political, to opt out but the world you exist in has not
8. Small business are largely web based and rely on the postal service for the fulfillment of their exchanges. We should not have to rely on privately owned corporations to do so
9. Brick and mortars in an effort not to lose everything they have worked for have been adjusting to current dynamics by shifting toward shipping as an option. They will be lost if they cannot afford to continue
Hey hats all I got for now swirling in my head but it takes all of 2 minutes to text USPS to 50409 and you can write whatever you want to get the point across
