2/8 Having worked for digital agencies for 7 years (and having spoken with countless other digital professionals during that time), I've found that there are many sticking points that tend to repeat themselves. I've summarised a few of the key points from my post in this thread.
3/8 Expectations not matching the contract ✍️💰

• Invest heavily in your audits, pitches and proposals
• Don’t start with mismatched expectations, which will only cause trouble further down the line.
• Create accurate pricing structure options.
• Set realistic goals.
4/8 Lack of budget 💵 ☹️

• Agreed budgets need to be aligned with expectations.
• Poorly-priced contracts will bring pain for your team and leave you struggling to meet expectations.
• Assess where budgets can be used to drive the best return.
• Think creatively.
5/8 Things moving too slowly & processes lacking efficiency 🐌😕

• Structure is vital to progression. Without it, frustrations will build very quickly.
• Use shared software. Embrace shared calendars.
• Remove unnecessary levels of sign-off.
• Embrace clear communication.
6/8 Internal burnout 🔥😫

• Digital agency life can quickly lead to burnout under the wrong conditions.
• Embrace home working and flexible hours.
• Don’t wait until it’s too late to hire.
• Use spare staff hours generated through hires in the most effective way.
7/8 Clients not understanding the value 🤷😑

• It’s your job to ensure clients understand the value you’re delivering.
• Don’t let good results lead to complacency.
• Double down on your reporting efforts.
• Offer training sessions to encourage understanding of value.
8/8 Neglecting internal marketing 📑💡

• You shouldn’t be neglecting your internal marketing.
• A few simple changes can generate big rewards.
• Create an internal process as if it were for a client.
• Focus on going all-in: don’t churn out low-quality content.
