USING LINKEDIN TO PROMOTE YOUR CAREER

Everyone knows you should be using the 'open to new opportunities' feature if you're on LinkedIn.

But what if we really wanted to take this to the next level. . .
1. IDENTIFY YOUR TARGETS /

Who would be your typical boss or boss' boss?

Use LinkedIn to build out an audience of specific contacts that would likely be interested in someone of a background like yours, the more specific, the better.
2. MAKE THE CONNECTION /

Invite them to connect, send them an InMail, send them an email, or even just get the old school phone pulled out and dial them up. Move yourself from being an unknown to being on their radar.
3. SHOW THEM YOUR TALENT /

As you're connecting, make sure to lead with why hiring YOU would help THEIR career. I suggest structuring your messages this way...

[Introduction]
[Intrigue]
[Explanation]
[Call to Action]
4. BUILD A RELATIONSHIP /

Even if they aren't currently hiring, if you're talking with someone who is functionally appropriate, make sure you understand their organizational goals and learn who else they know in the market. Leverage your relationships into other relationships!
If you're tracking all of your interactions and building out your professional influence, you'll always be on the top of their mind when they look to make a new hire, or know someone that's doing the same.
